Log Bench

The results of metal and natural wood together in the same piece is really satisfying. The process is challenging and requires constant critical thinking and problem solving. Exercisin these design mussels is a great way to spend the weekend!

Started with a dead tree that fell in my yard. Cleaned off all the bark and got down to solid structure.

Started with an idea for the legs to cradle the log.

Welded and solid!

Rigid metal meets organic log.

Mock up to get distance between legs before welding them together. The metal ends were bent to conform to the shape of the log.

This bench will be for indoor use and I love the look of tung oil.

Legs are painted and additional coats of tung oil are needed before fastening to the legs.

Other side of the log prior to fastening to legs.
